In gratitude for her now 33-year survival after breast cancer surgery, Cynthia donates money from every book sold to The Wellness Community, an international organization that provides free support, education and hope to cancer patients and their families. Additionally Frohlichstein encourages her readers and audiences at her signings, talks and readings to donate peanut butter (and jelly) for food pantries in their areas to help them meet the ever-growing need of families who can not afford food. The book was awarded First Prize for Children's Literature by Missouri Professional Communicators in 2008. On a national level, the book earned Second Prize in Children's Literature in the 2008 Communications Contest sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women. Everyone in author Frohlichstein's life loves peanut butter - her husband, her children and even her dog Paprika. She relates her son's cravings in this eye-catching, imaginative tale. This is the first book by the award-winning journalist. Among her many writing awards is the prestigious Quest Award for excellence in journalism. Her articles have appeared in local, regional and national publications. Frohlichstein is a long-time community activist. She serves on the Board ot the St. Louis Metropolitan Press Club that provides scholarships to journalism students. She has served as co-chair of the city-wide Jewish Book Festival. She continues to support the event and co-chair "Missouri's Own"; a Festival Event that recognizes local writers. Additionally she has been on the Boards of Missouri chapter of the National Federation of Press Women and the Palm Springs chapter of the National League of American Pen Women. As an advocate for a cure for Beast Cancer, she has been a member of the boards of The St. Louis Breast Cancer Coalition, The American Medical Center and American Cancer Society. As 'Reach to Recovery' Chair at Barnes/Jewish Hospital she produced a fashion show, "Does She or Doesn't She?' for Cancer Awareness Week. Lovely models who had and had not had breast cancer surgery were the models. No one could tell who had or had not been a patient. They were all gorgeous. A version of the show was picked up and aired on the nationally syndicated Sally Jesse Raphael show. In recognition of her many contributions to the St. Louis Community she was honored by Gateway OWL in 2007 as a "Woman of Worth" for her community service to mid-life and older women. Cynthia is living her philosophy of life: You are never too old to take on new challenges or fulfill your dreams. She plans for her Peanut Butter books to be the first chapter of a new and exciting part of her never boring - often colorful life. Frohlichstein enjoyed many varied and fulfilling careers as a fashion model/fashion show producer, college instructor, elementary school teacher, travel/feature writer, TV/stage actress. community volunteer and proud Mom and Grandma. Cynthia taught elementary school in St. Louis County, Missouri and Johnson County, Kansas. She taught travel writing workshops at St. Louis Community College. She is a graduate of Washington University and received her Master's Degree at Webster University. Among her many thespian performances she was the first St. Louis performer to perform at the legendary Crystal Palace Theatre in Gaslight Square. She was the only local member of the Clayton Repertory Theatre where she worked with the then unknown Carroll O'Connor. She also performed on educational television and the area's CBS-TV affiliate. Her portfolio included national, regional and local commercials and industrial films. She finds it especially rewarding that she is able to show her appreciation for her 33-year cancer survival by her donations to The Wellness Community and food pantries.
