If you have taken even a short walk on any beach in Oregon, you have been on the Oregon Coast Trail. This wonderfully scenic and diverse trail extends nearly 400 miles from the Columbia River to the California border, with over half those miles on sand. Exploring the Oregon Coast Trail provides the information you need to complete the entire trail, or to enjoy segments of it as a series of day hikes. This book also provides insights on chapters of Oregon's coastal history that make hiking the OCT a special and unique experience. In doing so, it reminds us to celebrate Oregon's open beaches and not take them for granted. Highlights of the book include:

Connie Soper first visited Oregon's beaches as a child when she lived in Coos Bay, and she has loved them ever since. She first hiked the Oregon Coast Trail in its entirety over three summers, 2006 to 2008, with many friends and family members. As an active hiker and a former transportation planner, this project was natural for her. She intends to continue walking it forever and to advocate for making improvements to the OCT so that future hikers will be able to experience a fully developed trail. She divides her time between Portland and Manzanita.
"This compelling guide to the Oregon Coast Trail is a reminder of our blessings and our responsibilities. Our predecessors had the courage and wisdom to protect the Oregon coastline for the benefit of all. The responsibility to sustain that legacy now rests in our hands. This guide offers a ticket to experience some of our state's most magnificent and powerful scenery. For only by experiencing the Oregon Coast can we truly know it; and only by knowing it can we find the wisdom and courage to preserve it for all those who will follow."
Former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber
"The Oregon Coast Trail is a gift all hikers can enjoy. And now here's another gift: a thorough, informative and entertaining guide to this amazing trail. This book is perfect for all hikers, whether you seek a one-day stroll or a multi-day adventure along the Oregon coast. I look forward to using it!"
Paul Gerald, author of 60 Hikes within 60 Miles of Portland and Day & Section Hikes, Pacific Crest Trail Oregon
"Connie Soper's guidebook proves she knows the territory. Not only are there maps for every step of the way, but the historic photos and local lore make the book a good read for nonhikers, too."
William L. Sullivan, author of the Oregon 100 Hikes series
