Dr. Herring is a graduate of Southwestern University and Texas A&M College of Medicine. After medical school, he served four years on active duty, then joined the Public Health Service as a researcher in the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. His experiences at NCI led to further research on the culture and science of overeating and in 2005, he released The Fast-5 Diet and the Fast-5 LIfestyle, the first introductory guide to a daily cycle of intermittent fasting. He recently released his second book, AC: The Power of Appetite Correction.
