Synopsis
Most of us are not living the life we are meant to live. We are living the life our story tells us to live. People struggle to live a life of passion and love because they are stuck in their story. We all have stories we tell ourselves about ourselves. Every human action is in some way an expression of how we think about ourselves. These stories become the framework healthy or not that we live within. We believe these stories to be true. Even when they are not. Today my life s work is to help people examine these stories that drives their behavior. I've heard thousands stories in my retreats and coaching work. I have heard stories of celebration, pain, loss, transition, abuse, love, betrayal and much more. In this book I share many of these stories to give you insight into how they be both a gift and a block. Our stories are born from early childhood experiences and they become the lens through which we see the world. They are a snap shot of who we are. They are a composite of past experiences and the input of outsiders both the good and the questionable. These stories often leave us conflicted. We give them heed and trust when they tell us what to do, what to be, how to live, how to dress, who we are, and who we aren t. We listen when they tell us what s right, even when we feel it might be wrong. I created this book to give you some insight into how your story is created, how it impacts your life and what you can do to change it. Our story has many layers. These layers include our fears, emotional wounds, beliefs, values and unconscious commitments. The book is broken down into layers to give you insight into how the layers of our story work on us. The artwork in the book is designed to help you reflect and think about your life at a deeper level. We must take the time to reflect and examine those parts of us, digging through the defenses that play a significant role in creating our life and impacting the choices we make every day. At the end of each layer, I've created 'Soul Questions' to support and deepen the process. Take the time to answer the questions thoughtfully. The book is full of color and paint! I believe we are here on this earth to paint our own masterpiece. Not the one our mom, dad and others want us to paint. But a masterpiece that is uniquely ours. Through out the book I've used this metaphor as a reminder to live more colorfully, passionately and strive to paint your own masterpiece by examining your story. We must become conscious of the story we are telling ourselves, and strive to regain our life s direction. It is time to end the story we ve been telling ourselves; the story that keeps us from creating a life we deserve, a life that is undeniably ours. Time to step outside your story.

About the Author
John Drury is the author of Awaken Your Soul: A Journey of Discovery (2006), and the founder of his company. This coaching, facilitation and retreat organization works with executives, groups, couples and companies to support greater self-awareness, more meaningful relationships and guidance through life s transitions. In 1980, John left Cooper & Lybrand, a Big 6 accounting firm, and co-founded Harris, Drury Advertising, a highly successful advertising agency in South Florida. Over 17 years, John built the agency into a $100 million business with a staff of 110. In 1997, he joined AutoNation, America s largest retail Automotive Company, to head up the marketing efforts for this Fortune 100 Company. He was a part of the team that helped build AutoNation into a $22 billion company. For 9 years John led a team that managed a $250 million marketing budget for over 300 automotive retail stores through out the United States. In 1996 John joined a start-up YPO forum and is still a member today. John s 30-year background in the study of human behavior, and as an entrepreneur and executive, provides him intimate knowledge of the factors and issues that face today s most senior executives, the teams they lead and the lives they live. During the past 10 years, John has done extensive personal work as well as facilitation with groups such as YPO forums, Spousal forums, EO forums, Corporate Executive Teams, Wilderness Expeditions, Shadow Work, etc. He is a trained and Certified Shadow Work® Coach. John enhanced these experiences with specialized training to provide a breadth of skills for any given situation. John resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has been married to wife Debbie for 34 years. He has two beautiful daughters: Lauren and Jennie.
