Review

My primary message to audiences and presenters has always been that, when done right, there is an energy to be harnessed in classical music, to keep it not only surviving but thriving and growing. Here is proof that it can be done! Pro Musica has survived these 80 years and is actually blossoming with new collaborations and ideas. I have been fortunate to have been part of its more recent history, and as long as I come up with new ideas, look forward to being part of its future! --Frederic Chiu, concert pianist

This is the history of an amazing concert series. It has maintained its high ideals for 80 years and is still going strong. And no matter how seriously its members take their music, they also have fun. We can learn a lot from them. They introduce audiences to exciting young artists who are still unknown. They offer programs that build audience interest in new as well as old music. By inviting composers to speak for themselves, they help music lovers understand what today s composers are trying to say in their music. Pro Musica is small, but in its collaborations with the Detroit Symphony it has influenced the orchestra's history, too. It sets an example for us all. --Neeme Jarvi, Music Director Emeritus for Life,

A clear and compelling account of one of the more significant pages from the history of music in Detroit ... it will prove informative and inspiring for anyone interested in similar endeavors ... In spite of all the usual vicissitudes such endeavors encounter, in addition to the Great Depression that hit Detroit harder than any other major city, Pro Musica Detroit is the sole remaining chapter after seventy-nine years. And it not only survives, it thrives. --Paul Ganson, Historian, The Detroit Symphony Orchestra
