After graduating from Baron Byng High School in Montreal in 1949, Danny Taran joined Consoltex, a publicly traded textile manufacturing company. In 1964 he became president at the age of 32. By the end of his presidency in 1983, Consoltex was the second largest textile manufacturer in Canada. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts (SBC), Montreal, and Chairman of the Board from 1997 to 1999. He endowed the Liane and Danny Taran Gallery at the SBC in 1998. As an avid photographer, Danny has participated in solo and group exhibits both in Canada and in the United States, where his work was widely sold. His photographs are represented in numerous corporate collections. He now devotes his time to philanthropic endeavors. In 2000, he established the Liane and Danny Taran Foundation, 'Art for Charity', with the mission of encouraging donors to increase their charitable donations through an incentive program. To date, approximately 1,000 photographs have been presented, representing well over a million dollars in increased donations. He then embarked on the project of creating a photographic history of the Jewish people. The purpose to make teenagers and youth more aware of there roots and in so increasing the voices in opposition to the alarming escalating spread of anti Semitism and anti Israeli propaganda that is so pervasive presently. His latest endeavor is donating framed photographs of his work in order to bring art and beauty into the public spaces of hospitals and not for profit retirement homes. The goal is to promote a sense of well-being among patients, caregivers, residents and visitors
Within the pages of this book our history of pursuing peace is encapsulated. Bringing a just peace is by far not the easiest path one could take. To sit idly by and watch the world saunter on is often too easy and unfulfilling. It is without a doubt that this book will break the yoke of apathy and inspire every person to embark on a journey that would bring a just and lasting peace. To those who have put their heart in to this book, it was a journey well worth it. To those of you who will be inspired to accept the enormous responsibility of striving for a just peace, you are not alone, the State of Israel and the Jewish people are with you. --Alan Baker Ambassador of Israel to Canada
