Torbjorn's Gold is the saga of a man's quest for meaning which leads him into an epic battle with evil on the stormy waters of Lake Superior and a search for lost treasure. Action, love, and adventure woven together with Scandinavian heritage assures the reader's appreciation for adventure as well as descriptors of scenic Minnesota. Jens Olav Nilsen, a twenty-eight year old, second generation, Norwegian-American, realizes after a dreadful day at work that he has fallen into a rut and a dead-end job. Soon, Jens becomes more skeptical and frustrated at the life he has fallen into and realizes he s haunted by the ghost of his great-grandfather, and the ghost of things he has always wanted to do, but has been too afraid to accomplish. His sister, Sigrid, who works as an administrator at a local nursing home, suggests he meet with a resident, a cantankerous, old Norsky named Torbjorn Ruud. After a few meetings, the old Norsky warms up to Jens and Torbjorn begins telling him incredible stories of growing up in Norway, life in the merchant marine, coming to America with his brother, Odd, and getting mixed up with Norwegian gangsters. An adventure begins on Lake Superior to the remote Isle Royale. Ultimately, gold, piracy, and the storm of the century converge on unforgiving Lake Superior. Norwegian heritage and history is woven throughout the novel with an amazing adventure on Lake Superior.
