Randy and Christal Simpkins live in Carrollton, Georgia with their three teenage sons, Zach, Tucker, and Joe. All are members of Old Camp United Methodist Church, where Randy serves as Choir Director and Chairman of Trustees and Christal is an active member of women's groups and various church committees.
Both Randy and Christal graduated from Central of Carrollton (Georgia) High School, where Christal was a member of the school softball team and theater group.
Randy served in the United States Navy from August 1988 to November 1993, graduating from Electronics Technician Maintenance School, Nuclear Power School, and Nuclear Prototype Training School. He served as instructor in the Nuclear Prototype Training Unit in Charleston, South Carolina and as nuclear reactor operator aboard aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt during Desert Storm.
After leaving the Navy, Randy graduated with honors from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Georgia with a B.S. in Political Science. He served as a County Commissioner in Carroll County, Georgia for eight years.
Christal majored briefly in theater at the University of West Georgia before becoming a fulltime mom for the couple's three sons. She remains active in theater through her church. She substitute teaches part-time primarily to be involved in her sons' school activities. Christal and Randy are also very much involved in the Athletic Booster Clubs at the boys' schools.
Randy is the Executive Producer of The Way Home, a true story about the disappearance of the couple's two-year-old son, Joe, in March, 2000.
During the filming of The Way Home, many people asked Randy and Christal about their lives before and after that day in March, 2000. The inquiries became seeds that grew into a strong desire to share the story. As the couple began writing, God's leading became more and more apparent, from the life-transforming experience on March 31, 2000, through the filming, through the process of writing the book, to today, and He continues to lead.
Randy and Christal are currently sharing their testimony with others, expressing how God has used the experience to teach them what their life priorities should be, focusing on faith, family, and community.
