Synopsis
Lenin for you Library? is a unique publication that presents the mail art project by Russian-American artist Yevgeniy Fiks. In 2006 Fiks sent the classic polemical book Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism by V.E. Lenin to 100 top companies in North America as a donation to their library. Lenin For Your Library? reproduces the revealing letters Fiks received from some of the companies in response to his donation.
Designed to appear exactly like the original Lenin book Fiks donated, Lenin For Your Library? includes an essay by critic Olga Kopenkina and an excerpt from the original Lenin text, Chapter IX, The Critique of Imperialism. The correspondence between Fiks and the various companies that responded, from Apple to General Electric to Disney, presents a compelling, and sometimes surreal, portrait of the contemporary American socio-political landscape.
