Synopsis

Santa Fe photographer Ford Robbins presents images that speak of his journey through the land over many decades. His love of the land in its various manifestations is acutely present in each image he creates. Land, sky, water, and architecture mark the paths he has taken, the connections he has found and recorded. Such are the memories documented in this deeply engaging book of black-and-white photographs. As we view the breadth of Robbins's work, the vivid, the austere, and the sensual, we may find ourselves reconnecting with sensual or temporal memories of our own. In this book Robbins invites us to come with him and enjoy the delights of the world around us.

"Texture and the abstracted nature of [Robbins's] selective focus creates surfaces many painters would envy. This is the artist's eye at work . . . to use the reality of material existence as a way to break through the limits of time and place."--The Santa Fe New Mexican

"In Robbins's . . . pieces, the viewer is [allowed] to touch the rock formations--and to contemplate the swirling waters, glacial erosion, and sandy winds of time that have carved and exposed the striations of mineral deposits."--Art in Embassies Program, United States State Department

"There is a soft spoken alchemist in our midst. His name is Ford Robbins and his media is powerfully subtle photography, which evokes strong emotions and conjures up what he calls 'spirituality of place'."--Eldorado Sun

"[A] love affair with light across America - The Bloomsbury Review. Robbins primarily photographed the landscape of the country , particularly the Southwest, once he moved from Minnesota to Santa Fe in the late 1980s. But some of his recent images showcase an interest in people, animals, structures and graffiti. He preferred using black-and-white film, said Robbin's daughter, Heather Sheppard. "It illuminated the harshness of the world that we live in", she said. It showed the world as it really is. Ford Robbins' photos have been included in exhibitions at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe, the Albuquerque Museum, The Harwood Museum of Art in Taos, as well as in many private, corporate and public collections. A book of his photography, Connections: A Visual Journey, was published by Red Mountain Press in 2009. Signed. Seller Inventory # SKU2010022306
