The question of holy communion is intimately tied to the liturgy, as we all well know. The original book dealt with only communion in the hand. Bishop Laise had shown then that the practice of communion in the hand was never approved by Rome nor sanctioned. Yet it continues to this very day to be the norm in most places as far as the Novus Ordo and post Vatican II mentality are concerned. This part of the book is the same as the 1st edition with some slight modifications and improvements. The second part of the book treats of spiritual communion and the state of the soul for the reception thereof. This part is a brand new addition to the first part of the book and complementary to it. Although Bishop Laise doesn't state this explicitly in his book, this second part is his response to the 2016 promulgation of Amoris Laetitia. Overall, the book is somewhat scholarly with quotes, footnotes & Latin texts. But anyone interested in the subject with a firm devotion to the Eucharist will find this study of great value, although he or she will have to be patient and reflective in reading the texts. This English editon that Preserving Christian Publications has published is the 5th revised and enlarged edition, the first edition having first appeared in 1998. The book is a hard back with sewn signatures with a dust jacket including some biographical information about Bishop Laise.
