About the Author
William L. Sullivan is the author of a dozen books about Oregon, as well as several novels. A fifth-generation Oregonian, he grew up in Salem, graduated from Cornell University in English, studied at Heidelberg University in Germany, and earned a master's degree from the University of Oregon. His journal of a 1000-mile backpacking trek across Oregon, Listening for Coyote, was chosen one of the state's top 100 books by the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission. He has written hundreds of outdoor articles, first for Eugene Weekly from 1992 to 2000, and since then for the Eugene Register-Guard. He enjoys backcountry ski trekking, playing the pipe organ, promoting libraries, and reading novels in five languages. He and his wife Janell Sorensen live in Eugene but move each summer to the log cabin they built by hand on a roadless stretch of river in Oregon's Coast Range, a story told in his memoir, Cabin Fever.
