Dr. Simon Evans and Dr. Paul Burghardt are research scientists at the University of Michigan. Simon is in the Department of Psychiatry and Paul is in the Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience institute. Both are affiliated with the UM's Comprehensive Depression Center and the Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center. Simon holds a PhD in molecular biology with 15 years research and teaching experience in neuroscience. He also holds membership in the Society for Neuroscience, the American Society for Nutrition, and the American Heart Association. He is the author of dozens of scientific publications on stress, depression and brain function. Coach Simon also has a 25-year history working with youth sports and holds a national coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation. Simon lives with his wife and children in southeastern Michigan. Paul earned a MS in exercise physiology and a PhD in biomedical science and has a decade of research experience investigating how physical activity alters behavior and neurobiology. He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience and the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society. He has authored several scientific publications on response to exercise, has clinical experience investigating the effects of nutritional supplements on performance in athletes, and experience in cardiac rehabilitation programs. Coach Paul has also instructed athletes in national junior judo competitions and worked as a personal trainer. Paul also lives with his wife and child in southeastern Michigan.
