The guide consists of twenty lessons and is suitable for teachers, parents, and home schooled facilitators. The guide is also adaptable for special needs children. Activity worksheets and student practice schedules are included. To help students with note recognition, the package has two sets of flash cards: Laminated Keyboard Flash Cards and a Four-Octave set of Staff Flash Cards.

Judy Kagel, author and composer of the Keyboard Beginnings Music curriculum, received her undergraduate degree (BME) from Temple University with a major in piano and voice. She continued her graduate studies at Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Princeton, NJ. She is certified to teach Yamaha Music Education, Robert Pace, and Kindermusik. Judy's professional career includes directing Keyboard Beginnings programs at the Monmouth Academy of Musical Arts in Morganville, NJ and Honey Child Music in Red Bank, NJ. She has taught music in the public school system, first through eighth grades, and she has taught in private music schools for over 30 years. Judy is an active participant in New Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA) Conferences. She will present a workshop at the February 2009 conference entitled, "Keyboard for Young Fingers --- grades K-2nd." Judy also maintains a piano studio where she teaches private lessons and has an active career performing as a vocalist and piano/keyboard player at private parties for all occasions. Her professional title is All Occasion Music by Judy.
