Jeffrey Brown, M.D., is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and licensed in the state of Maryland. As a physician, author, and professional speaker his central goal is to help bridge the gap between what doctors know and what patients understand.
Since the beginning of his residency training at the Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital Program, and throughout his years working in emergency rooms, hospital wards, and in clinic settings from Johns Hopkins Hospital to Harvard s Mass General, Dr. Brown has encountered thousands of patients who have little knowledge of their personal health history and chronic illnesses. These findings continue to concern Dr. Brown, because it is precisely this lack of knowledge that increases a person s risk of suffering from avoidable complications of disease, medical errors, and medical mismanagement.
As a result, he has been on a path to fill the knowledge gap that exists between physicians and their patients. Dr. Brown is always amazed and troubled when he talks to patients who have had a chronic illness for ten, twenty, or even thirty years but don't know the very basics about their illness and how to better manage it. Dr. Brown often finds himself spending much-needed time with patients explaining their health problems in simple, plain language.
In addition to authoring Health Power 101: the Complete Guide to Patient Empowerment, Dr. Brown is also the founder and president of Health Power 101 Seminars, LLC, which has been created to empower patients, caregivers, and health-conscious individuals to take charge of their health.
The gift of teaching is independent from the gift of practicing medicine. A brilliant doctor may be clueless on how to communicate effectively with patients. Dr. Brown believes that this disconnect between a doctor s knowledge and the ability to relate to patients is the central reason so many people are un-empowered to better manage their health.
Dr. Brown hopes to empower patients and their loved ones with his books, seminars, and workshops. He believes that a key part of his life s work is to help others realize their best health potential.

This system eliminates the guesswork and empowers patients to control their health care. As a physician, I wish all my patients would use this invaluable guide. --Romulo F. Baltazar, M.D., FACC, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
My mother-in-law died from cancer last year, and I think having a resource like this would have helped take some of the stress out of the situation for my father-in-law. A system developed to empower people to use their voice is a good thing, and the forms will help people to effectively communicate their situations.
I would definitely recommend the system to friends or family in need. --Tracy L. Schmidt, Author and Editor
