About the Author:
John de St. Jorre was born in London, educated at Oxford University, and served in the British Army in Malaya and the Foreign Service in Africa. Before turning freelance, he was the London Observer s correspondent in Africa, Paris, the Middle East, and New York. He has written widely for American and British publications including The New York Times Magazine, Foreign Affairs, The New Yorker, Town & Country, The Times (London), and The Guardian. His books include The Brothers War: Biafra & Nigeria; A House Divided: South Africa s Uncertain Future; The Patriot Game (a novel); The Insider s Guide to Spain; and Venus Bound: The Erotic Voyage of the Olympia Press and its Writers. His books with Anthony Edgeworth cover the military (The Guards and The Marines); golf (Legendary Golf Clubs of Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland; Legendary Golf Clubs of the American East, Legendary Golf Links of Ireland and Legendary Golf Clubs of the American Midwest) and New York clubs (The Links; The River Club; and The Racquet and Tennis Club). He lives in Newport, Rhode Island. In 2009 the USGA presented to Mr. de St. Jorre the Herbert Warren Wind Book Award for The Story of Golf at The Country Club. Anthony Edgeworth s elegant photography has received many awards for excellence in a career of more than thirty years. Pictures bearing his signature style have appeared in: Esquire, Town & Country, Tatler, Fortune, Travel & Leisure, New York, Money, New York Times Magazine, Business Week, Money and Forbes FYI among others. He created advertising campaigns for a diverse client list that includes Mobil, DeBeers, Citicorp, Ralph Lauren, Amtrak, U.S.Army and the U.S.Marine Corps. He has produced stunning photographs for eleven books: The Guards; The Marines; Brandywine; The Institute (VMI); Legendary Golf Clubs of Scotland England Wales & Ireland; Legendary Golf Clubs of the American East; Legendary Golf Links of Ireland; The Links; The River Club; The Racquet & Tennis Club; The Bathing Corporation of Southampton, the Centenary volume for The Piping Rock Club and is presently producing the Centenary volume for the National Golf Links of America and the Walker Cup having just completed the fourth golf book Legendary Golf Clubs of the American Midwest. Born in Dover, Delaware, Mr. Edgeworth was educated at the Canterbury School and the University of Virginia, served in Berlin with the U.S. Army and resides in Florida. His memberships include The Brook and the Racquet & Tennis Club.
