Some of the most important truths in life can be revealed to us in moments of deep sorrow. In FACADE, Bill Wade shares his personal struggle with faith during the long illness and death of his son, John. A remarkable work of beauty, FACADE speaks to those who have suffered great loss or questioned God's will or existence. This is a touching book that speaks to the heart of grief. Bill's youngest child, John, succumbed to cystic fibrosis at the age of fifteen. John's mother, Noel, and older brother, Galen, give voice to the sorrow and melancholy felt by anyone who has ever lost a loved one. The loss of a child is especially painful because life insists that we continue on, that we age and create new memories without that child. The Wade family does not hide from this, but finds a path that leads beyond the pain to the calmer place where God's healing grace awaits. It is a powerful book that offers hope and comfort to all who read it. All net proceeds from the sale of FACADE go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Review:
At first glance, FACADE is the story of a father's grief over the loss of his son. The author's guileless inquiry into the mystery surrounding all life, however, takes the story deeper than either grief or loss. Bill Wade's open heart and the humbleness of his spiritual journey draw us in as readers, and we watch as the grieved-for son, passing over into another world, turns back to give life to the father. --Barry Lopez, author and National Book Award Winner

FACADE moved me. I picked it up on a dark evening when I was alone, thinking I would glance at it briefly before turning out the light and going to sleep. Instead I was kept wide awake, fascinated and compelled by an unforgettable story. This is a unique book. There is a sense of collage, which in some ways is a strategy of modern art. The juxtaposition of quotations from such a wide array of authors and poets and a series of serene photographs that complement the text in many subtle ways all this has a magical effect. The spare prose narrative stimulates the reader to participate by filling in the blank spaces with personal reflections and imaginative empathy. Facade is truly a gift to its readers. --James Wilcox, author of nine novels, is Director of Creative Writing at LSU
