MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW: 5 STARS!
For thirty minutes, Gary Joseph was dead. 'Proof of the Afterlife' is a Christian and devotional tale as Brother Gary Joseph offers his own testimony to the existence of the afterlife, as he relays his story of his death and return to the world of the living, saying that there is something after and to remember that no one is gone for good, that they wait on the other side. Of metaphysical and Christian interest, 'Proof of the Afterlife' is very much worth considering for anyone looking for tales of real people's brushes with the afterlife. The Midwest Book Review

From the Back Cover

"Proof of the Afterlife 2" (400 pages) fore word begins with a little bit more about the good, the bad and ugly! The first edition (194 pages) of Proof of the Afterlife received wide-acclaim over the past six years from pastors, church leaders and readers, both Catholic and Protestant alike. It reached top in its categories at Amazon.com and has maintained nearly solid 5 stars ranking after all these years; in spite of a few grouches, naysayers and curmudgeons!

And so,there is a lesson learned here; haters are a gift from God and make an important contribution to all our lives. Jesus in fact told us, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world,it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also." John 18:18-20

It is because of them the Good News is spread. They energize it, our message and us. That is what the book of Acts is all about. It's all good! In fact, it is the only surefire way to know that we have had an encounter with God and doing His work, isn't it? Having everyone love you is a danger sign. Jesus warned, "Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets." (Luke 6:26)

Following Christ with his message of mercy and works of charity will at times lead to you being ridiculed and even persecuted. But if that happens, Jesus has something to say about it. "Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil, for the sake of the Son of Man. Be glad in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets."(Luke 6:22-23)

As it turns out, only a minuscule group did not like the first book. The book is truly meant for those who want and need it. Makes sense? So what was the brouhaha all about the first time? Here it is in a nutshell . . .

1. After the book documented dozens of real-life NDE-driven supernatural encounters with angels, afterlife meetings with God the Father and Jesus along with mystical dreams, visions and apparitions, one critic writes,"The book has nothing to do with the reason I bought it,to learn what the person experienced on the other side."

2. And, of course as you may know, some church goers, whether Catholic or Protestant already have life and the afterlife totally figured out being avid Bible readers. A person with a robust attitude of "I am right and you are wrong" (pride) and a strong "let 's disagree with Catholics" attitude is not going to accept my testimony that documents the real existence of Purgatory, especially in the section about my father(Chapter Four). One critic writes on behalf of the many with the same beliefs, "Asa Bible believing Christian . . . I was particularly disturbed by the part where the author's father, apparently a very negative and unloving man, wound up in a purgatory-like place after he died. this is preposterous beyond words . . . I do not discount that he is writing about what he experienced, but I seriously question where this experience came from. I don't think it was God." Well, may God bless her dear heart! But in all seriousness, I think I actually met this person on a book speaking tour while travelling on the east coast in the spring of 2011. One morning I was getting ready to leave a small east-coast town after an appearance on Greenville, SC, Nite Line, a regional Christian television show airing live the night before. While standing in line at a neighborhood coffee shop, a lady with her teenage son in front of me began to speak after seeing my shirt and its silk screened cross, shield and words, "Servants of the Father of Mercy". "Are you a Catholic?" she snapped, loudly alerting all the customers around to the fact, "We have a Catholic out-of-towner among us!" "Yes!" I replied, "I am a Catholic." She continued rather aggressively, "I was a Catholic too at one time. But as soon as I get my coffee, I can show you in a few minutes why Catholics are deceived by the devil himself." I just pleasantly smiled and did not say a word while the teenage son, embarrassed, sheepishly hid behind the other customers inline. Over at the cream and sugar bar she continued the outburst. But the son pulling on her arm spoke up, "Mom, let's go."Quickly I responded as if something or Someone had come over me and said,"Ma'am, apparently you are going to heaven and I'm not. Would you do me one favor?" "Yes," she replied hesitantly. "Please pray for me that I do not wind up in hell. I need your prayers the rest of your life. Would you always pray for me?" With that I walked out the door, sped off to the airport for a flight back to Los Angele sand thanked God that I had just found a new Christian friend who will pray for me the rest of her life!
