Synopsis

“Invade Rinse Repeat” is a spycam of a novel, a satirical reckoning that charts the past and future of the Republican Party. It doggedly follows George W. Bush and his gang into the meetings that changed America. From the 2003 decision to go to war, to the sky-is-falling moment in 2008 when the president learns he must become a socialist to save capitalism, we are at the table in the White House Situation Room. Then, in 2016, after Republicans have endured eight long years of the “Obummer” presidency, they win the election, and the Gingrich-Palin administration soldiers on where Bush-Cheney left off. Once Newt begins to undo everything his predecessor achieved, an uprising sweeps across the land — the “American spring.” Needing advice on dealing with war protesters, bank burners, and Wall Street haters, Newt seeks out an old hand, Dick Cheney … well, what’s left of the former vice president. Embracing Dick’s brainstorm, Newt shuts down the Internet and sends out the National Guard to restore order. With two million demonstrators holding the District of Columbia hostage, President Gingrich himself heads for the National Mall to make a final stand in The Newtron, a quadbrid automobile that runs on gasoline, diesel, natural gas, and coal. The carbon footprint (and the legacy) he leaves is huge. You know the cast of characters; now get inside their heads. American politics are insane, and “Invade Rinse Repeat” tours the asylum.
