From the Inside Flap

The primary topic of this book is turning your manuscript into a printed book. That is the focus of "Part II - Publishing". But my own experience in writing, publishing, and promoting books motivated me to include guidance on the supporting topics as well.

"Part I - Writing" provides a few tips on finding the tools and resources that can help you to write and illustrate your manuscript. If you already have a finished manuscript in your hand, then feel free to leap straight to the Publishing section.

"Part II - Publishing" is the real meat of this book. It describes where and how to hire the help that you need to turn your manuscript into an electronic file that complies with the requirements of a book printer. It describes the advantages of hiring a proof reader to insure that your work is readable by the rest of the English speaking world. Then I guide you through getting an ISBN for your book and working with an on-demand printer. At the end of this section of the book, you will be ready to order your first copies from the printer.

"Part III - Promoting" covers the importance of marketing your book to build a readership. So many books are published every day that you cannot get noticed unless you are putting real effort into drawing attention to your work.

"Part IV - Selling" describes some of the options that you have for fulfilling orders. You can do it yourself, or allow other companies to do it for you. There are advantages to both methods. You need to understand your responsibilities in order to choose which is best for you.

"Part V - Legalizing" covers issues associated with copyright registration, trademarks, and incorporating your publishing business. These details are not especially important when you are getting started, but they will become necessary when you have been successful with your first book and want to continue to grow your little empire.

You will start reading this book as an author, but will finish as an author, publisher, promoter, and small business person.
