More was written by and about David than any other person in the Bible. This 128-page illustrated novel on the life of David, second king of Israel, includes more than four hundred illustrated panels and dialog that tells the story of David's life. Volume 1 covers David's life from age fifteen to thirty. Dr. Richard Pratt, Old Testament scholar, Harvard ThD, wrote: “In David: The Illustrated Novel, Michael Thompson takes us on the grand adventure of walking beside a man after God's own heart. Michael Thompson's creative approach offers us all the opportunity to enter David's life in ways we may never have experienced. He writes in the genre of an illustrated novel, a genre that has enjoyed widespread acceptance throughout the world for centuries.” This artistic and compelling illustrated novel offers fresh reflections on the personal struggles of a man who served God in challenging times. To the publisher's knowledge, no book like it has ever been produced.

From the Inside Flap:
Volume 1. 1025 BC to 970 BC. Israel wants protection against its pagan neighbors. However, the Israelites keep doing it their way, instead of God’s way. When God gives up on Saul, He chooses David to lead Israel, but then He must intervene several times and in very mysterious ways. VOLUME 1: These are the events and people that surrounded and defined David from age 14 to 30—the boy-shepherd, the lion killer, the poet, the musician, the anointed, the warrior who slew Goliath and thousands of enemies until David becomes the hunted himself. He spent eight years running and hiding from Saul who wanted to kill him. Saul’s son Jonathan—a prince and possibly next in line for the throne not only befriended David, but saved his life on more than one occasion. Volume 1 won the Silver IPPY for second-best GRAPHIC NOVEL from the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Author Michael Hicks Thompson couldn’t understand why God said David was a man after His own heart. So he researched, wrote, art-directed five artists, and published the DAVID novels.
