Four desert dwellers―a burro, a coyote, a skunk and a raven―face an uncertain future, until they discover each other and bravely set out on a journey to start a new life as the Sagebrush Singers! Based on the classic German folktale collected by the Brothers Grimm, The Sagebrush Singers is the amusing and uplifting story of four animals who comfort and support each other by banding together. In this modern retelling of the “Bremen Town Musicians,” author Herb Kernecker has set the story in the American Southwest. Beautifully imagined by award-winning, bestselling children’s book illustrator James Watts, this picture book will enchant children (ages 4-8) and please their parents. Bonus online features include: audio of the song, a glossary, the original fairy tale, and other fun extras. www.sagebrushsingers.com

Review:

A timeless German folktale restaged among the cacti of America s Southwest? You betcha! Kernecker and Watts hit it just right, with lively prose and comical illustrations that bring the animal characters to rip-roaring life.— John Schindel, children s book author

This hilarious romp subtly introduces the theme of human encroachment on nature through a fun, attention-grabbing story... and the song accompanying the book will have young readers braying, cawing, and howling along. —Foreword Reviews magazine (forewordreviews.com)

A lively story of friendship and ingenuity that will have children rooting for the heroes. The natural, muted-color drawings are just right for the sparse desert setting and the expressive, lovable animals.

--Mitra Modarressi, children s book author and illustrator
