Synopsis
More Algebra by Design contains more advanced topics often taught in the second semester of an elementary Algebra course. Topics include: Absolute value; Solving inequalities; Factoring binomials with common factors, the difference of two squares, and quadratic trinomials; Solving quadratic equations; Evaluating polynomials; Combining like terms; Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and simplifying radicals; Simplifying and adding or subtracting radical expressions; Operations on fractions with monomial terms; Solving word problems; Interpreting linear, absolute value, and quadratic graphs; and Finding the next term in a sequence. The second edition, new in 2011, includes four new exercises on the slope/intercept form of a line and linear inequalities in the coordinate plane. This popular series of books employs a search-and-shade technique. Students work the exercises and search for the answers on a grid. Each square containing an answer is shaded according to a shading code shown for that exercise. If the answers are correct and the grid is shaded correctly, a pleasing design emerges. Students are highly motivated by this connection between math and art. Teachers are given permission to reproduce the pages of all our "design" books for classroom use. A solution key is provided.
