Award-Winning Finalist in the 2015 USA Best Book Awards
This little book has a deep heart and enormous vision, simple enough to engage young readers and profound enough to inspire their parents.
- His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese)
This is one of my children's all time favorite Orthodox books!
- Sarah Wright, Orthodox Motherhood
When I brought the book in the house, it caught my 9-year-old's eye immediately, and she literally screamed, "MOM! IT SAYS 'PASCHA' ON IT! LET ME SEE!" And she proceeded to bury her face in it for the next hour.
- Maura Oprisko, The Least of These
Folks, my kids adored this book. In fact, as soon as we were finished reading it the very first time, they requested that we read it again.
- Caitlin Fitzpatrick Curley, My Little Poppies
It's Pascha, and Catherine is determined to stay awake all night. Can she do it? Will she remember how to say "Christ is risen!" in Russian? Will her best friend Elizabeth remember how to say it in Greek? Will their parents let them play with burning candles, smash hard-boiled eggs, and eat sweets until the sun rises on Pascha?

Through an inspired interplay of text and image, author Charlotte Riggle and illustrator R.J. Hughes have created something truly wonderful: a story about a particular Paschal celebration that transcends its specificity and embraces the world. This little book has a deep heart and enormous vision, simple enough to engage young readers and profound enough to inspire their parents.
- His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh (GOA)
Catherine's Pascha provides a lovely depiction of the Orthodox Christian Easter celebration through a child's eyes. It weaves a tapestry of the many cultures that are part of the Orthodox Church in the world, and is a great addition to both personal and public libraries.
- Matushka Wendy Cwiklinski, Orthodox Christian Religious Educator, Orthodox Church in America
Catherine's Pascha captures beautifully the enthusiasm and excitement a child feels and experiences on Pascha. The Feast of Feasts, the brightest day in the Orthodox Church, what wonderful subject matter to share with a child on any day of the year. My wholehearted congratulations on producing such a joy-filled book!
- Jane G Meyer, author of The Hidden Garden and The Man and the Vine
It's been many years since Charlotte Riggle had to take candles away from her children before they set someone's hair on fire. She won't tell you which one tried to kiss a candle flame during a Holy Friday procession, or which one slept through the entire Pascha service and woke up the next morning wailing, "I missed Pascha!"
She will tell you that she wrote this book for them, when they were much younger and much smaller than they are now. She's learned that children grow up and find their way in the world sooner than books do.
If you visit Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Tacoma, Washington, where she is a member, you'll find her on the north side of the nave, with a hat on her head. The house that she and her husband share is filled with books, laughter, music, and a large, fluffy white dog.
