Review

''Although this book primarily focuses on Rep weave, it has a strong emphasis on design and colour techniques and will be interesting to a much wider audience, including other craftspeople.
Kelly first demonstrates her creative approach to designing textiles for her own home, taking stock of furniture and floor/wall surfaces to decide on her projects, with colour choices as her starting point. She then looks at patterns and motifs, explaining sources of inspiration (architectural details and historical textiles are just two referred to) and how she builds a design.
Colour combinations are explored next, using various techniques developed by experience.
Transferring a design to the loom is the next stage, and so recommendations for materials and equipment are given. Kelly recognises that the heavy, warp faced weave of traditional Rep does not suit all furnishing fabric requirements and so introduces an alternative technique which results in a much lighter weight fabric, allowing the weft to show. The techniques and tips section is an ideal introduction to Rep. The second half of the book details 18 projects which can be followed to give you experience in Rep weaving, or provide inspiration or a starting point for your own designs.
Each project is clearly photographed and graphed. Not having studied Rep weave, I found that I needed to double check my understanding of the instructions with a more experienced friend, although there is an explanatory page at the end of the projects.

This is not a book for beginner weavers, but both experienced weavers and those interested in studying various approaches to design will find it very inspiring, as Kelly's colour and pattern combinations are stunning and the photographs throughout the book are first class.'' --Christina Chisholm, Online Guild July 2012

''If you've ever dreamed of furnishing your home exclusively with handwoven textiles, the book entitled Custom Woven Interiors by Kelly Marshall will encourage and inspire you to achieve that goal.'' --Rosalie Neilson, Handwoven Magazine August 2012
