Synopsis

Violence rages in the 1850’s, as marauding men roam the lawless border of Missouri and Indian Territory in this historical, fact-based novel. Bent on looting and killing, they raid Curtis Sommer’s farm, which sets the young man on a journey seeking justice while confronting brutal enemies and nature's fury. One after another, the outlaws are brought to account, except the last-Veeko. He is the most cunning and elusive villain of all. The Sommer family is in turmoil, after the outlaw brutally rapes a young girl, Curtis' long and demanding pursuit leads to startling twists of fortune and an epic battle of wits between the farmer-turned-justice seeker and Veeko. The setting for Avenge is the broad untamed wilderness of the American frontier, spanning from Missouri to Texas and on to the early pioneer trails across Nebraska Territory. Midwest Book Review gives the book a high rating and says: A fine novel capturing vivid history, this is powerful in setting, characterization, and its explanation of not just history but individual choice. AVENGE is part of the 'Six Bulls Series', which uses family tales passed down through generations to add life and personal meaning to historical events.

About this title

About the Author

The four novels in the Six Bulls series draw upon family tales of settlers who journeyed across the American frontier in the 1800's. Their stories, passed down through the generations, paint pictures of courageous and adventurous people-a hearty lot-who had perseverance and self reliance, despite the many dangers they encountered. They overcame their misgivings and fears of the unknown wilderness. Most were not famous nor widely celebrated, yet they carved out homes, farms, and a life on the frontier. In the process, they created a great nation. They are my heroes. From my research, I have a better understanding of the plight of Native Americans, as westward expansion occurred. Despite being fierce and resourceful, ultimately, the oncoming tide of settlers swept them aside. There came a time for understanding and compassion by the conquering invaders. In too many instances, this did not occur, and that stain is part of our American legacy.
