Once kids know that pachy = thick and derm = skin, they know why hippos, rhinos, and elephants are called pachyderms. About the Author:

Children’s author Edith Hope Fine loves words and their Greek and Latin roots. Her latest writing adventure is Greek and Latin for Cryptomaniacs!, a student workbook that pairs with her book Cryptomania! Teleporting into Greek and Latin with the CryptoKids and covers 300 basic Greek and Latin roots. Her most recent picture book is Sleepytime Me (Random House). Other award-winning books include Under the Lemon Moon, Armando and the Blue Tarp School (both Lee & Low Books), and Water, Weed, and Wait (Tricycle Press).
