Synopsis

Tom Nix fought his way up from the mean streets of San Pedro to revolutionize (and sanitize) check cashing services. While the Beastie Boys* sang about Nix Check Cashing, he was hit with armed robberies, cutthroat competition, the L.A. Riots, and an assassination threat by the Chicago Mob--overcoming it all to serve urban communities. Tom's company became a valued and trusted financial institution across southern California.

Reflecting on the extreme business environment surrounding him, Tom writes about the crucial decisions of his leadership, and the principles that guided him. Juggling family, financial pressures, heavy drinking and negativity, he changed his life and mind for the positive, and never gave up or gave in. NIXLAND  informs and entertains with hard-won wisdom on every page.

About the Author

Tom Nix is the founder of one of the largest alternative financial services providers in California. Along the way he overcame armed robberies, cutthroat competition, and an assassination threat by the Chicago Mob. In 2007 he sold the company to Kinecta Federal Credit Union for 45 million dollars, creating an opportunity for true over-the-counter, traditional banking in under-served communities. In fact, Tom's check cashing stores provided the only banking service available during the 1992 L.A. Riots.

Nixland: My Wild Ride in the Inner City Check Cashing Industry shares Tom's humorous and dramatic stories of how he went from street-fighter to living the life of his dreams. These gripping stories inspire audiences to take control of their lives by using the same easy-to-follow concepts that worked for him. A man of genuine warmth and true to his values of discipline and integrity, Tom inspires readers to overcome whatever challenges they are facing.
