About the Author:
Charles Johnston is an organizer of ayahuasca retreats with guides who study with the Ashaninka and Shipibo of Peru and the Yawanawa of Brazil. It is his hope that participants be better prepared and more comfortable with their exploration of consciousness, so they have a greater chance of transformation and healing. Over the past ten years, these same experiences have allowed him to transform from an unfulfilling cultural paradigm narrow religiosity, substance addiction, and materialistic pursuit to an advocate of personal and spiritual transformation. He now experiences life more openly as he guides and teaches others. He has worked at multiple psychedelic detox clinics and retreat centers, spoken publicly and on podcasts, and is guided by his passion of spiritual expansion.

Dario Nardi is a renowned author, international speaker, and expert in the fields of neuroscience and personality. Since 1998, he has taught Anthropology and Computing at University of California (Los Angeles), where he won UCLA s Distinguished Teacher of the year in 2011. For over a decade, he has conducted extensive hands-on brain research using EEG technology. In 2014, Dario began work with entheogens in a ceremonial context for personal growth and scientific understanding.

Jason Gentile is a superfood sourcing and nutritional product development specialist, integrative men s trainer, outdoor adventure guide and yoga teacher based in Los Angeles. His passion and professional work with healing plants has taken him around the globe. Over a decade of inner journeys with expanded states practices and plant medicines has helped him cultivate clarity, generational healing, and radical self-acceptance. As founder and training director of Art of Waking Up, Gentile facilitates men s circles focused on grounding, embodying, and implementing insights from medicine work in the LA area as well as self-transformation adventures around Southern California where he lives with his wife and daughter.

Winter Garand is a yoga teacher, certified massage therapist, dedicated self-explorer, and psychedelic advocate. In 2009, she began to pursue a path of discovering the truth of existence. This led her to an ayahuasca retreat center in Peru where she lived for a year facilitating hundreds of participants through life-changing ceremonies. As a result, Winter feels it is invaluable to have the proper tools and space to fully integrate these kinds of transformative experiences. She has come to see a wide spectrum of shadow and light on this planet. With this insight, she has set her sights on embodying practices and teachings from wisdom traditions around the world in order to align herself with our collective awakening into our most joyous expression. She lives in Costa Rica with her love, Joe Garand. Together they are developing a retreat center there, where earth magic meets human evolution.
Review:
The authors of Facets of Ayahuasca have synthesized a modern guide to the ayahuasca medicine path. They have combined both a holistic and multicultural perspective on how to optimize benefit and reduce harm using both ancient and modern techniques. Their conservative approach encourages readers to do their own homework, but orients them enough to know what questions to ask. Highly recommended for anyone beginning the psychedelic medicine path! --Ashley Booth, founder of the Aware Project: Rethinking Psychedelics and InnerSpace Integration

I read the whole book and very much enjoyed the journey.

My overall impression of this book is its necessity. Integration with Ayahuasca is something many people need and don't have the guidance to experience. I have never seen literature on the integration after the use of plant medicine. In this book the tools given on integration and creating a positive environment internally to better the integration experience are tools that brought me comfort and I will cherish. As someone who hasn't yet had been able to journey to South America in a ceremonial environment with Ayahuasca, I was able to feel like I will understand better the right time and place for me when I am able to come to that journey because of this book.

The structure of the book was really interesting to me, flowing as a journey. The book was strung together perfectly, fulfilling a feeling of beginning, middle and end allowing for of feeling of flow and journey while reading. The integration tools were most interesting to me because I haven't seen tools for for integration before. The thought that goes into a ceremony and how and what one takes away from their journey is shown in this book as something to prepare for and put a lot of thought into to create a safe transformational experience, instead of anxiety within planning, the tools gave felt like every step in the preparation is setting an intention and putting love into ones Ayahuasca experience to come. I also felt extremely engaged and interested by the way relationship to self and others was spoken about as a nurture one must engage in order to fully benefit from Ayahuasca and bring back what one has learn from her into their daily life. The depth on archetypes and the multitudes of perceptions and possibilities explored I could experience an informative read with giving me the understanding that there are so many ways one can journey with Ayahuasca and many experiences one can have but with the tools and open-minded mindset I felt throughout the entire book I feel confident that my individual experience will be a dance with myself and Ayahuasca that will birth what will be if I hold acceptance and curiosity.

The book left me satisfied and fulfilled, not too much information to take in and not too little. The book created a full feeling, leaving me with confidence to proceed with courage and tools in my journey with medicinal plants. I was able to answer questions that arose as I read the book disintegrating my concerns with Ayahuasca and igniting an excitement furthering my self growth with plant medicine and creating the right space to most beneficially sit with Ayahuasca.

"You are the sky. Everything else it s just the weather"- Pema Chodron Thank you to all the authors and creators for birthing this beautiful book into the world. --Psychedelics Explorer

I thought this book was really good. It demystifies a lot of the dogma surrounding ceremony in a way that corroborates well with my personal experience. If I had encountered this earlier in my journey, it would have gone a long way in deconstructing what I had perceived as dodgy gatekeeping by the community. Having read it later in that journey, the sections on sexuality, relationships, and community have renewed my interest in further exploration by pointing out how much I have yet to find. I really appreciate that most of the book was told through grounded experience and encourages healthy skepticism. --Regular Ayahuasca Participant
