Is there life after failure for the child of God? Is there life after defeat? Life after sin? Is there a way of restoration for the believer who has been attacked by Satan and knocked from the race? Is victory possible after conquest and downfall? ALPHA PREDATOR gives a Biblical answer to those searching questions. ALPHA PREDATOR is an adventure-saturated exposition of 1 Peter 5:8–11, uniquely illustrated with stories of true-life encounters with African lions and memoirs from the author’s life while living in the bush of Southern Africa. It is a book about conflict with Satan, defeat and failure in the believer’s life, and the impact of the restorative grace of God. ALPHA PREDATOR is about the forfeiture and restoration of a cherished relationship with the Father. It is a literary safari into seldom explored regions of the heart of God and a candid excursion into the deepest longings of the heart of a banished child. For those who are desperately searching, this book holds the key to the way back home.

The locals call it "Khaki Fever" - a term often used by safari guides in Zimbabwe to describe the condition of a person who falls hopelessly and helplessly in love with Africa. Symptoms include extreme infatuation and fascination with the land, the people, and the wild animals of that faraway place. Steve has had a severe case of "khaki fever" for as long as he can remember. Therefore, for those who knew him well, it came as no surprise when in 1981 after graduating from Samford University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and after serving for a few years in a traditional role as a pastor of churches in Texas and Alabama, he pulled up the roots of his American way of life and moved with his wife and children to Zimbabwe, Africa. There they served for years as international missionaries in the deep bush of the Zambezi River Valley. One would think that such a radical move would help assuage the intensity of his "khaki fever," but all of those years living in the deep bush of Zimbabwe did nothing to alleviate his love and addiction. In fact, if anything, that experience merely increased his passion. Even now, every year he returns to the remote Zambezi River Valley with a group of intrepid volunteers to spend time with the wonderful BaTonga people who live in that region. These days he is back in the states, living in the panhandle of Texas with his wife Shirley, where he pastors a church and writes. He and Shirley have three grown children and four wonderful grandchildren. "Khaki fever" still burns deep in his soul. Indelible memories of an action-packed past are forever seared into his way of thinking, as is evident from his style of writing in every chapter of ALPHA PREDATOR. Treasured recollections from those wonderful years spent in Africa are obviously splattered across his mind like mud spots on a land rover after an adventurous afternoon spent in the bush. Should he wash the vehicle before passing the story on to us? Clearly not! A muddy, scratched, battered, and sometimes tortured vehicle is the only proper tool for transporting such a tale of raw and rugged truth. But wait a minute - is this a description of a truck or the author? It's hard to tell. The answer to that question is what makes his book come alive!
