About the Author

Patrick's family was Irish and generally anti-British, but regarded Ireland only from the perspective of being the land of Saints and scholars. A classical education was favored over any concentration on technology and his mother, who was in a tippling way, was fond of settling disputes with citations from the Bible or Joyce. After early education in Rome, New York City, Mexico City and Connecticut, that included the study of physics, Patrick earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University and a Master's in Business from Columbia University.  Today, nearing the age of 70, Patrick is an economics writer with an eclectic background that includes art, engineering, politics, sales in global heavy industry, financial services and a reverence for all things British except their cars. Drawing upon Biblical, Classical and Colonial sources, Patrick enjoys drawing the curtain back from today's Wizards of Oz and showing mainstream America how things work.

From the Back Cover

After five years with two major international brokerage firms, I returned to my old occupation as a sales engineer, and became a Registered Investment Advisor, but much wiser in the way of the professional investment world, able to see that what is termed Wall Street for the individual and institutional investor is a Potemkin Village, absolutely crucial for the aggregation of Main Street wealth to finance enterprise and to provide trading liquidity, but otherwise, deleterious to the financial health of individual and institutional investors.
