Two women sheep-herders invite the reader to laugh, cry, and contemplate with them as they relate 45 stories of working with their flocks in Colorado. They share what these experiences have taught them about themselves, others, and Creator God. The two authors, Marilyn Bay Wentz and her mother, Mildred Nelson Bay, have a cumulative seven decades of sheep-raising experience. Their stories range from humorous to thought-provoking, but always inspiring. Each of the short chapters includes a vignette from the sheepfold, stories that draw the reader into a vicarious farm experience, and offer an entertaining way to learn about the animals that are mentioned more than 500 times in the Bible.
Each story closes with a brief, spiritual application followed by reflection/discussion questions, and a prayer designed to lead the reader into personal communication with the Good Shepherd. Photos are included. The book is designed for personal or group use.

Marilyn Wentz graduated with a BA in Journalism and a minor in Spanish from the University of Northern Colorado. She edits two national agriculture publications, Bison World and Open Pastures. Prior to settling down in her native Colorado, she was general manager of the Taiwan public relations branch of Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising, then the world's largest advertising agency, and also spent six months in rural Costa Rica. She became fluent in Spanish and conversational Mandarin Chinese. She now operates Prairie Natural Lamb and enjoys training horses.
Millie Bay has lived in Colorado all her life except for two years in Fairbanks, Alaska. For forty years she raised sheep, including lambing-out as many as 100 ewes per year. She has served as a leader in 4-H and AWANA. As a writer, she has had numerous articles published in local newspapers and several in the Gideon Lamp magazine.
Transparent and truthful, engaging and enlightening - the authors use their 'shepherd's crook' to guide the reader into a deeper understanding of the Great Shepherd's love. They use their 'shepherd's rod' to challenge their readers to grow in faith, learning to enjoy the green meadow and dark valleys. The practical lessons taught are insightful and life changing. The short chapters can be used for personal devotions, or even as a basis for Bible study groups. Marilyn and Millie remind us on each page that sheep are amazing creatures, created by an amazing God. --Tonya Blessing, Strong Cross Ministries
The authors remind us that Christ followers lack nothing from the Good Shepherd: We are restored, adopted, accepted, protected - we are loved. This book is rich with lessons from ladies who know sheep well; readers discover faith-driven parallels between raising these creatures and walking intimately with God. An insightful, delightful, and inspiring read! --Gayle Irwin, author
Having worked with sheep all my life, I know how vital it is that sheep have a good shepherd. Just as we shepherd sheep on this earth, Christ shepherds us. Millie and Marilyn have done a wonderful job of taking the experience they have gained through their sheep management and putting it into stories for people to enjoy, learn from, and most importantly gain a new understanding of the relationship between we the sheep and Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd. --Benjamin D. Brown, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Wyoming
