Anne Menke has traveled the world on assignment for the likes of Vogue, ELLE, Marie Claire, and Condé Nast Traveler, usually in search of the perfect environment to shoot a fashion spread. During her extensive travels, she quickly discovered that these environments themselves are the origins of much of the fashion we see on the runways today. In See the World Beautiful, Menke turns her camera away from professional photo shoots to the local populations, which are equally as compelling and stunning as the highly crafted shoots for major magazines, copilling an incredible record of people and places, exploring the roots and inspiration of today's fashion and style while simultaneously documenting the rich culture of the locations she visits. Texts by colleague luminaries Tommy Hilfiger, Julia Chaplin, and Andrew Niccol, in addition to the author's own introduction, explain how fashion meets culture in ethnic populations of Latin America, Europe, Asia, and North America. This unique, sensitive, and insightful work is itself the perfect intersection of art and fashion photography and showcases a story of beauty at risk of being lost in translation.
Limited to just 110 copies, this deluxe edition is boxed, and comes with a signed and numbered print.

Photographer Anne Menke is a free spirit whose work occupies a unique realm where high fashion meets bohemian travel. Her editorial stories exude a sense of glamour, often against backdrops of far flung exotic locales. She photographs couture on the mountains of Peru, and beauty contests in the plains of Mongolia. Somehow she is an insider wherever she goes; her eye for the authentic brings her viewers along on the journey. Menke was born in Germany, she lived and worked in London, Paris, and New York City. She currently splits her time between New York and Sayulita, Mexico; a perfect base for her frequent photography excursions. It's also where she surfs, and the home of the green school she created, The Costa Verde International School. Her work can be seen worldwide in Vogue, Elle, Conde Nast Traveler, Self, Sports Illustrated, and W magazines, among others. Menke also photographs for other clients, including Banana Republic, Rachel Roy, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Keds, Clarins, L'Oreal, J Crew, Macy's, Nike and Aveda. In 2001 Anne published a photography book "Our New York" in conjunction with Tommy Hilfiger. Her 2012 book, See the World Beautiful, with a foreword by Hilfiger, was selected as one of Oprah's favourite books of the season and was featured in the New York Times Style section. Tommy Hilfiger is an American fashion designer and founder of the premium fashion and lifestyle brand Tommy Hilfiger Corporation. Julia Chapman covers contemporary art, fashion, design, lifestyle, and travel for The New York Times, Spin, Interview, Harper's Bazaar, Wallpaper, ELLE, Vogue, and Conde Nast Traveler.
In this illustrated book with a preface by Tommy Hilfiger she curates unforgettable impressions and images, paying homage to the people, cultures and landscapes she has encountered. It's no wonder that this is one of Oprah's favorite books. 253 pages of unadulterated beauty-stunning! (GG magazine)
