Drawings can be simple or elaborate. Pencils, colored pencils, colored pens, and crayons work well.

At the end of the book, following the story, a professional illustrator offers kids a fascinating tip about working with color.

"I love this book....the only way I could love it more is if I were learning to read....a perfect book for a young reader, and every second page is open for personal illustrations of the story. Jack David is...very noisy.... Despite reminders from his teacher about the noise, he doesn't seem to notice....On it goes, until a walk in the woods, when he saves the day.
