As a young Military Dog Handler, I read every possible dog handler manual I could get my hands on and I still had many questions that went unanswered. Each manual I received had the basics for which our training was to cover and a simple brief on other areas that explained why or how but not much in comprehensive detail. The lectures, classroom discussions helped fill in more needed knowledge; however it was still brief and left many unanswered questions. Many if not all dog training books are essentially an opinion, mostly because you can’t ask the dog if it is true. Other books I found were that persons beliefs on their training techniques, which if that was what you were looking for was great. While working for U.S. Customs as a Narcotics Detection K9 Office, I was introduced into the civilian working dog industry. I was truly surprised at the lack of education that was involved; even my most basic of training had written material to read with lectures and classroom structure. While I’m not making claim that no one in the civilian market has literature or lectures, the particular training I was privy too did not. During my last years working with my dog Sunny, I was approached by K9 Handlers from the civilian law enforcement community asking me advice about advanced training and working dogs. After I worked with so many different teams, I knew there was a greater calling for me and I ventured into becoming an entrepreneur of my own K9 training center. Shortly after my business launch, I was approached by handlers looking to improve their working dog program. During this first year, new dogs were needed which meant K9 teams needed training and handlers needed education. After searching for written materials for their class, I realized I had to create my own.
