This book is the culmination of my professional career as a woman and physician caring for other women. The book proposes a different model of health care which treats each woman with the utmost respect and focuses on her specific needs and herstory, including her herstory of violence. Status Quo Health Care, SQHC, does just the opposite: treating individuals as a herd and ignoring a woman's specific herstory, interrupting her and often completely silencing her. One of the antidotes to SQHC, in addition to WomanSafeHealth's guiding principles, is Woman Advocacy, which includes taking a woman advocate to all health care appointments.

About the Author:

Elizabeth Shadigian, MD, FACOG is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in the health, safety and well-being of women. She received her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University and studied, taught and practiced at major health care institutions for 20 years. Elizabeth left academia as a Clinical Associate Professor to create WomanSafeHealth, a medical practice based on women's empowerment.
