About the Author

Larry Irons grew up in Carson City, Nevada graduating from Carson High School in 1964. From an early age he had a dream of becoming a disc jockey, which only grew stronger throughout his high school years. His favorite classes in school were English and creative writing, and he also liked journalism class and was on the staff of his high school newspaper. At the age of 19 while attending the University of Nevada Reno, he was offered a weekend disc jockey job at local station KONE. That was in January of 1967. Within 3 months he had a full time shift, 12pm - 6pm, and a month after that he was promoted to program director. For the next 30 years he worked as a disc jockey, music director, program director and operations manager at radio stations in Reno, NV, Stateline (Lake Tahoe) NV, San Diego, CA, Sacramento, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Lansing, MI and Brownsville, TX. Larry's had a life-long love of music, (he got hooked on rock and roll at age 9 when he first heard "Be-Bop-A-Lula" by Gene Vincent), and over the years has collected more than 5,000 CD's and 3,000 vinyl LP's. He also has a large collection of biographies by a variety of rock and roll artists. Cooking is another of his life-long interests. At the age of 4 his grandmother would hold him on her hip and let him cook his own eggs and he's loved to cook ever since. So much so that he did something he always wanted to do. In 2004 he enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas graduating summa cum laude in 2005. Larry says the best thing that ever happened to him was marrying the girl next door, Andrea, his wife of 17 years. They live part time in Las Vegas and "anywhere our RV takes us" with their 2 Italian Greyhounds, Luci and Willie. Willie was rescued recently following the death of their other beloved IG Vinny. Larry's interests include listening to and collecting music, writing, reading, cooking, golf, target shooting and antique hunting.
