Synopsis
Organic chemistry feels like a drawing course and professors insist student learning is enhanced by writing and practice. This notebook provides outlines of lecture slides for first semester organic chemistry designed to streamline the learning experience by allowing students to listen more and learn more efficiently while producing an organized set of notes for review and study. Concepts include review of general chemistry concepts, introductory organic structures, conformations and visualization of 3-dimensional molecules on 2-dimensional paper, stereochemistry, mechanisms, substitutions, eliminations, additions, radical reactions, and oxidations. With an emphasis on mechanisms, and a goal to reach multistep reactions and retrosynthesis, the outline includes regular practice and examples. Organization is not aligned to a single textbook; organization was developed by Dr. Lanni throughout a decade of teaching organic chemistry at three colleges using almost a dozen textbooks.
