Short Stack is a series of small-format cookbooks authored by America’s top culinary talents. Each edition is a collectible, single-subject booklet with 20-25 recipes that offer ingenious new ways to cook our favorite ingredients. Each 48-page 4.5 x 7.5” book is printed domestically on textured cover paper and colored paper interior with a staple binding. About the Author
Andrea Albin is a chef, recipe developer, tester and food stylist with over 10 years of culinary experience. She began her career cooking in some of New York City’s top restaurants and then, at the age of 26, took a coveted position in the test kitchens of Gourmet magazine, where she learned and practiced her craft with the best in the industry. After Gourmet, Andrea spent 4 years at the Food Network, developing innumerable recipes for Food Network Magazine. Andrea recently relocated to her hometown of Houston, Texas, where she continues to write and test recipes.

The author and illustrator of Pumpkins (2004) turn their focus to apples in this informative picture book. In a text that covers how "the most popular fruit in the United States" is grown and harvested, Farmer delves into both basic botany—the parts of a flower; how pollination occurs—and more advanced concepts, such as grafting. Children encountering plant science for the first time will need help puzzling through the challenging concepts and vocabulary; photosynthesis, for example, is alluded to but not fully explained. Later spreads offer a more accessible overview of apple varieties (pictured in a handsome, illustrated chart), nutrition, and historical significance. The watercolor-and-pencil artwork includes helpful, labeled diagrams as well as multicultural apple lovers, picking, eating, and enjoying the fruit, in the past and today.
