DORIAN TRENT is a young man with a head full of conflicting ideas. His mentor thinks Dorian will uncover the ultimate resolution between science and religion, but who will resolve his own confusion when it comes to Mildred and Carlia?
Dorian is the final work of Norwegian-American Mormon author Nephi Anderson, a mature masterpiece that has garnered favorable comparisons to the works of Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, D.H. Lawrence, and, Dorian's favorite, Charles Dickens.
This Peculiar Edition combines the original 1921 novel with excerpts from Anderson's original typescript, fresh critical analysis of the novel, new notes on the text for the modern reader, and much more. Celebrate this valedictory accomplishment of one of America's great lost novelists-and the grandfather of Mormon literature-by joining Dorian on his journey through philosophy, theology, romance, pain, struggle-and just the right amount of resolution.
Dorian: A Peculiar Edition Whether returning to Anderson or meeting him for the first time, this Peculiar Edition is a journey into new levels of artistry and complexity--as well as a great yarn for a fireside read.

CHRISTIAN NEPHI ANDERSON was born in Norway on January 22, 1865. His family emigrated to Utah to join other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1871. As an adult, Anderson worked as an educator, author, and genealogist; he served two missions to Europe where he worked in publishing in addition to other missionary tasks. His first wife, Asenath, died in 1904. He married his second, Maud, in 1908. He died on January 6, 1923.
I [...] think [Dorian: A Peculiar Edition with Annotated Text & Scholarship is] an important work, consciously-written and genuinely literary, that deserves our attention now as an example of a significant stage in the history of Mormon literature. In my opinion, the truly spectacular contribution of this edition is to be found in the notes and scholarly essays that follow the novel.
The notes, compiled by Eric Jepson with input from a number of other scholars, explain the historical and social context and literary allusions of the novel with gratifying thoroughness.
