9780991286522: Violence of Action: The Untold Stories of the 75th Ranger Regiment in the War on Terror

Synopsis

Violence of Action is much more than the true, first-person accounts of the 75th Ranger Regiment in the Global War on Terror. Between these pages are the heartfelt, first-hand accounts from, and about, the men who lived, fought, and died for their country, their Regiment, and each other. Objective Rhino, Haditha Dam, recovering Jessica Lynch, the hunt for Zarqawi, the recovery of Extortion 17 and everything in between... These stories have been told many times in barracks rooms, bar tables, and backyard barbecues but they have never before been shared with the general public. It is time for those stories to be heard. So much more than just stories from a specific unit; this book reveals the sights, smells, and emotions of everything that happens in war - good or bad. It will be seen as the quintessential, ageless work on the human condition in combat. Whether you served in the military, are a fan of military history, or just want to know more about your fellow man in times of war - this is the book for you.

About the Author

Marty Skovlund, Jr. is an author, freelance writer, award winning entrepreneur, award winning independent filmmaker, and television personality.
He was born and raised in Huron, South Dakota. He grew up the oldest of five, spending his time as an avid outdoorsman and reader. After high school he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. His first assignment was to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.
While at 1/75, he served in a variety of roles and deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan a total of five times. After his fifth deployment, he volunteered for recruiting duty and was assigned to the Syracuse Recruiting Battalion as a recruiting NCO.
In 2012 he founded Blackside Concepts, LLC, his first business venture. Shortly afterwards, in June 2013, he separated from the Army after eight years of service to run his business full time.
Marty left his company in the fall of 2015, which had grown to include six separate sub-brands, to travel the country with his family. He now focuses on his newfound interests in writing and filmmaking, while serving on the board of advisors for The Darby Project.
He is happily married to his beautiful wife, and is father to an incredible little girl.

Review

"Violence of Action is truly a book like no other ever written." - Kerry Patton, author of Contracted: America's Secret Warriors

"While many have written about Special Forces, SEALs, Delta Force, and others, almost nothing is out there about the Regiment's unmatched contribution to the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, until now. Violence of Action pulls back the curtain and allows the reader to finally catch a glimpse of the Rangers in bloody combat." - Jack Murphy, New York Times Best Seller and author of the Deckard Series

"The matter-of-fact presentations by the Rangers in this book of actual combat leadership situations are lessons that cannot be taught in any school. These stories underscore their incredible heroism, their uncanny super-human feats under fire borne of intense and continuous training and their ultimate dedication to their Ranger Brotherhood." - Gary Dolan2011 Ranger Hall of Fame Inductee, and author of Of Their Own Accord

"As I alternated between chuckling at the humor of the Rangers and gripping the pages with anxiety as I placed myself in their shoes while they fought door to door and leapt rooftop to rooftop, I was blown away by the raw honesty of the book." - Nick Palmisciano, President, Ranger Up

"Violence of Action is a must read for anyone that wants to know what our Rangers are all about and the unsung heroes they really are." - Dr. Dale Comstock, author of American Badass
