Shevat is an ideal time to focus on our appetites and eating habits. When it is intensely hot during the summer, people tend to eat less. During the colder months, people tend to eat more and bulk up. Yet, paradoxically at the coldest point of the winter, people often lose their appetite; it is simply too cold to eat. This is why Shevat is focused on the Tikkun of eating; as the intensity of the cold begins to weaken and it begins to gets lightly warmer, people start to focus on food again.
