Synopsis

In a thousand years of history more than a thousand churches were erected in Norfolk, and 250 of those have either been left redundant or survive in various stages of ruination. This book celebrates in photographs and prose Norfolk's ruined, redundant, lost, forgotten and remote churches and other religious buldilngs in a county-wide record. After an introductory section, the main body of the book consists of gazetteer-style entries with accompanying maps and details of the location and access arrangements for each building. One or more of Clive Dunn's highly stylized photographs of the buildings and their surroundings accompanies each entry (except for a section on churches now entirely lost). The aim is both to seduce with stunning photographs and to provide a practical guide for those who wish to explore this rich aspect of our heritage.
