9780994616838: Mastering Django: Core: The Complete Guide to Django 1.8 LTS

Synopsis

Mastering Django: Core is a completely revised and updated version of the original Django Book, written by Adrian Holovaty and Jacob Kaplan-Moss - the creators of Django. The main goal of this book is to make you a Django expert. By reading this book, you'll learn the skills needed to develop powerful websites quickly, with code that is clean and easy to maintain. This book is also a programmer's manual that provides complete coverage of the current Long Term Support (LTS) version of Django. For developers creating applications for commercial and business critical deployments, Mastering Django: Core provides a complete, up-to-date resource for Django 1.8LTS with a stable code-base, security fixes and support out to 2018.

From the Author

I started writing web applications with Django way back in 2007 when Django was only in version 0.96. At the time I was looking for an alternative to the nightmare that is building and maintaining websites in PHP.

Django was a breath of fresh air.

Not only was it built on Python - which already had a reputation for ease of learning, bullet-proof stability and maintainability - but Django itself was fast and elevated "rapid application development" from a buzz-phrase to real world possibility.

Today, Django has grown into an enterprise-ready framework with a reputation for speed and stability; household names like Pinterest, Instagram, Spotify and NASA all use Django as their preferred platform.

The original Django Book is where I got started with Django, so I have always had a soft spot for the book. When I decided to bite the bullet and become a professional author, I was looking for a way to contribute back to Django. Mastering Django: Core is the result.

With 100 more pages and about 70% new content, Mastering Django: Core is a very different book from the original Django Book, but I like to believe the spirit of the original book remains.

Like the original, this book is also intended as a service to the Django community. While it is for sale and, as the author, I do expect some return for my efforts, some of the royalties go directly to the Django Software Foundation and much of the rest goes towards maintaining the Django Book site.

I do hope you get as much out of this book as I got out of writing it.

All the best with your programming journey.
