Synopsis
Geared for Grade 4, but meaty enough for use by Grades 5 & 6 as well. The first 3 lessons of Units 1-7 consist of themed units that contain: ~ Copywork Selection (includes both manuscript and cursive options) ~ Lesson Suggestions for understanding the mechanics, usage, etc. of the Selection used ~ Spelling Words ~ Spelling Practice ~ Poetry Corner - consists of a poem related to the Unit's theme ~ Fix it! - student identifies what is wrong with the Copywork Selection and puts their grammar skills to use ~ Did You Know? - usually an interesting fact or an idiom that relates to the theme of the Unit - adding to the depth of learning the art of Language ~ Dictation - the natural way to learn and retain all concepts pertaining to Language Arts ~ Story Time - a short story that may be used for retelling ~ Narration - a spot for the child's narration to be written down. The fourth lesson of each unit takes a different approach. Those lessons consist of: ~ Picture Studies with questions to aid in observation skills ~ Word Play -- fun activities with words ~ Writing with Purpose -- in which the student learns to do various types of writing, such as descriptive writing, directions, poetry, letter writing, etc. ~ Hands-On -- your child will be making mini-booklets, cutting, pasting, illustrating, and more! Units 8 & 9 has the student write two Book Reports on books of their choice. The first is on a Saint Story of their choice and the second is on any book of their choice (assuming parental approval.) The student is guided on what to do each week for their book, and given numerous optional activities to choose from to facilitate further learning.
