The Stone of Mercy is the Award-Winning first book of the Centaur Chronicles series. In due course, it is presented to a sixteen-year-old Duende girl named Carling, one of the tiny descendants of the fairies that once filled the land. But the silver breastplate is not complete. In order for its wearer to have the skills to rule the land righteously, the young Duende needs to find the four stones of light that are needed to finish this magical source of power and authority.
This is the riveting story of Carling's quest. She, along with her friends, must risk their lives to save their land and fulfill the assignment given to them to complete the silver breastplate.

About the Author
M.J. Evans is the author of several middle-grade and Young Adult fantasies and novels, all of which have receive national awards and critical acclaim. Her passion for horses, and fantasy characters based upon horses, is reflected in her earlier works: "The Mist Trilogy" and "In the Heart of a Mustang." She is currently working on completing her newest four-part series titled "The Centaur Chronicles" of which "The Stone of Mercy is the first. M.J. Evans is a former teacher at the middle-grade and high school level. She has been married to her high school sweetheart forever and the couple has five wonderful children and ten grandchildren whom they adore. Ms. Evans is also a life-long equestrian and competes in Dressage. She and her husband live in Colorado with their three horses and a standard poodle.

As soon as I heard the description of The Stone of Mercy I knew I wanted to read it and I was not disappointed. The unique fantasy world filled with unforgettable creatures created by author M.J. Evans is a wonderful escape into a great adventure. The main character of Carling grabbed at my heartstrings instantly and I felt as if I was right there next to her though the entire book, through the battles, the tears, and the triumphs. The end of this book leaves on a nail-biting cliffhanger as well, and I cannot wait until the next installment comes out so I can continue this adventure.
