The simplest questions are often hardest to answer. To understand the world around them a curious and inquisitive child wants to know “why”, not just “what”. Why is an apple red? Why is the sky blue? Why are sunsets red? Why are trees green and change color in the fall? Why are rainbows colored? Why can’t I see colors at night? Targeted at children 9-12 who want to understand “science around them” this book explains “why” colors happen. Sunlight is broken into colors, but the eye can see only red, green and blue. Where do the other colors come from? Tested with three local 5th grade science classes, they were impressively engaged and asked great questions. For example: why does oil on water make colors; my dad is color blind, why does he think my red sweatshirt is blue?
