    About the Author

    Alan Watkins is a part-time Core Adjunct Professor for the Cybersecurity and Information Assurance programs at National University, College of Professional Studies, Department of Computing and Engineering. He has been teaching online graduate courses since 2012, and teaching new undergraduate courses when the Bachelor Degree program was started in 2017. Alan has developed curriculum for three of the new undergraduate courses and revised the curriculum for two graduate courses. He has published three academic papers on cybersecurity education. Alan holds MSBA and BS degrees in Management and Business Administration from San Diego State University.

    Alan is also a retired independent cybersecurity consultant (8 years), whose career also includes over 36 years in the public sector, working in law enforcement for 12 years, followed by 24 years in information technology (IT) management and information security (aka, cybersecurity). He has combined experience of over 40 years in the IT field and 20 years in cybersecurity; with 10 years of concurrent experience in emergency management. Alan has been an active member of the InfraGard San Diego Members Alliance since it was created in 2005, and he was one of the founding members of the San Diego CISO Roundtable.
    Alan lived in San Diego from 1975 until 2011, then moved to the California desert, where he now resides in Yucca Valley with his wife and their cats, dogs, and desert tortoises.
