Synopsis
“I want to run to Paris, through the halls of the Sorbonne and other universities, crying out 'Fire! Fire! The fires of hell engulf the whole world! Come, esteemed doctors, come holy fathers and clergy, help us extinguish this fire!... Souls perish by the thousands for lack of those willing to reach out to them.” St. John Eudes was a missionary to those most in need of mercy, an evangelist to fallen-away Catholics and an educator of priests. He is often portrayed with a heart on fire in his hand, because his life was driven by a burning love for the people of God. In this short biography, we get a clear picture of who the man, John Eudes, was and what he did with the zeal burning in his heart and soul.

About the Author
Steven S. Marshall is a specialist in the spiritual heritage of St. John Eudes. He blogs (doctorcordis.com) about spirituality and his collaboration with the Vatican commission evaluating St. John Eudes as a candidate to be proclaimed a Doctor of the Church. He holds a MA in Spiritual Theology from St. John’s Seminary. Highest honors were awarded to his thesis: “Eudist Brothers: Living Communion Ecclesiology ‘Before it was Cool.’” For a year he lived in Normandy, France as one of 15 people in a specialized program of spirituality studies. There, he walked in the footsteps of St. John Eudes and sat at the feet of spiritual masters from around the world. He now serves as translator and theologian for the US Region of the Eudists and lives with his wife in Southern California.
