Me Usha is a collection of poetry and narratives written by Dr. Usha Mahisekar and edited by Mrs. Ulka Nagarkar. Dr. Mahisekar was born and raised in Solapur, India until the age of twenty nine when she moved to Chicago with her husband. Here she became a renowned Anesthesiologist and influential member of the Chicagoland Hindu community. As a poetry enthusiast, she composed many poems and writings over the last decade. Her wish was to share the joys and sorrows of her life with the community. This collection written in her native language, Marathi, is intelligent, soulful and amusingly self aware. Ushatai examines issues of culturalism, social stature, spirituality and the value of social connection. She emphasizes the importance of not just acceptance but also the celebration of life despite it's disorganization and uncertainty. Her lines will linger in the mind long after reading and make you examine your own experience with love, suffering, beauty, and the world around us.
